1/26/2024 0 Comments Mindup health curriculum![]() Each level consists of 15 lessons in four unitsGetting Focused, Sharpening Your Senses, It’s All About Attitude, and Taking Mindful Actiontaught throughout a semester or year. Children are encouraged to show their kindness in many different ways. The MindUP curriculum is published by Scholastic Inc., and is offered in three age-related levels, Pre-K2, Grades 3-5, and Grades 6-8. Each day the children nominate someone that has shown an act of kindness at school and their name is displayed in the Kindness Heart. Our children celebrate their Acts of Kindness through the daily Kindness Heart in the classes to develop their understanding of the positive impact this can have on both their own and others emotional wellbeing. These videos, combined with explanatory text, images, and activities will provide teachers with the materials and support they need to successfully implement MindUP in their classrooms.We aim to provide children with a classical liberal education, regardless of background or ability. The program is a blend of neuroscience, social and emotional tenets like empathy and perspective taking, and mindfulness, a practice which many schools have already started exploring. ![]() The MindUP online learning platform will feature real-life video examples of the curriculum's principles being incorporated into classroom practice. MindUP skills, including focused attention and non-reactive monitoring of experience from moment to moment, create the potential for long-term impact on brain function and social and emotional behavior of children. MindUP is a suite of social, emotional, and attention-related self-regulatory strategies and skills, developed to cultivate well-being and emotional balance in children and ultimately improve behavior and learning. This project is funded by The Hawn Foundation and will include contributions from faculty at Teachers College and CU. The online curriculum will be used to train teachers in the MindUP program starting in the fall of 2012.
